ACTION PLAN OF WORLWIDE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY"
Responsible Care is chemical industry's
own, unique initiative- a voluntary
program that helps it to raise its standards
and win greater trust from the public.
Under Responsible Care, the worldwide
chemical industry is committed to continual
improvement in all aspects of health,
safety and environmental performance
and to open communication about its
activities and achievements.
Implementation of the program has started
in Canada in 1985 and is now in 47 countries
where more than 85% of the world chemicals
(in volume) are produced.
Responsible Care is managed by national
chemical industry associations. In Turkey;
Responsible Care is implemented by Turkish
Chemical Manufacturers Association.

Responsible Care in Brief
Responsible Care
is an initiative of the global chemical
industry in which companies; through
their national associations, commit
to work together to continuously improve
the health, safet and environmental
performance of their products and processes,
and so contribute to the sustainable
development of local communities and
of society as a whole.
Responsible Care is managed by industry
and focuses on improving performance,
communication and accountability.
Responsible Care improves performance
by identifying and spreading good management
practices through the publication of
codes or guidance documents.
Responsible Care promotes mutual support
between companies and associations through
experience sharing and peer pressure,
replacing competitive approach of the
past in health, safety and environmental
areas.
Responsible Care encourages companies
and associations to inform their publics
about what they make and do, about their
performance including reporting perfromance
data, and about their achievements and
challenges.
Responsible Care helps the industry
to engage and work with stakeholders
at local, national and international
levels, to listen to and address their
concerns and aspirations.
Responsible Care promotes co-operation
wtih governments and organizations in
the development and implementation of
effective regulations and standards
and helps companies to meet or exceed
these requirements.
Responsible Care brings accountability
through its requirement that chemical
associations develop credible processes
to verify that member companies are
meeting Responsible Care expectations.
