TANKROM® FS

Tankrom® FS is 42% basicity, alkaline free, weakly organically masked and homogeneous powder basic chromium sulphate. Tankrom FS is readily soluble even in cold water and short float.

Owing to additional organic masking, Tankrom® FS has a good buffering effect.

Organically masking characteristic of Tankrom® FS offers the following benefits:

Resistance to sudden pH fluctuations during basification. Thus, Tankrom® FS renders uniform chromium oxide distribution on the cross section and the grain of the wet- blue.

Tankrom® FS prevents overbasification of the grain. Thus, color and fullness differences are eliminated.

APPLICATION

Tankrom® FS can be safely used in main tanning and retanning with its high penetration and exhaustion characteristics.

Tankrom® FS is added directly into the drum in powder form and can be dissolved properly in cold water.

Tankrom® FS is advised to be used 6-10% on pelt weight for hide and skin and 15-25 g/L for double-face (fur) in main tanning.

Tankrom® FS is advised to be used 2-6% on shaved weight for hide and skin and 5-10 g/L for double-face (fur) in retanning process.

2 or 3 hours of tanning with light sodium formate basification is sufficient in retanning at 40-45 OC bath temperature.

Some of our advices are as follows:

Low bath length should be preferred as much as possible, in order to accelerate penetration and to raise final temperature and chrome exhaustion.

Since penetration is encouraged by low bath temperature; starting temperature of tanning should be 15-20 OC and temperature should be raised gradually to 35-40 OC at the end of the chrome tanning by mechanical action or heating system of the drum.

Depending on the type and thickness of hide, basification should start within 30-90 minutes and should be completed before the 4 th hour of chrome tanning. Thus, maximum chromium oxide exhaustion and
homogeneous chrome distribution is obtained.

If sodium bicarbonate is used for basification process, since it has strong alkaline character, it should be diluted at least at the rate of 1/10 in cold water and should be added slowly in small portions into the
tanning bath. Using magnesium oxide based basification agent in basification process offers some advantages for standardization and ease of basification.

Chrome tanning time should be at least 8 hours for high chrome exhaustion. After the end of that time, as no special supervision is required, the chrome tannage may be allowed to proceed automatically
during evening and night hours.

Drum can be drained, after checking pH value of bath and wet-blue.
