KROMOFIX^®

Kromofix^® is a magnesium oxide based basifying agent, specially developed for basification process.

During basification process with sodium bicarbonate, some problems may appear as a result of its strong alkalinity. If sodium bicarbonate is added into float rapidly and unsteadily, it causes sudden pH rises. Sudden pH rises lead to damage chrome distribution in the cross-section of wet-blue and cause overbasification on the grain. Therefore, color of wet-blue changes from blue to green.

Kromofix^® is produced with the goal of practical application of basification without problem;

After being added into the drum in powder form, Kromofix dissolves slowly and gradually increases the pH. Desired pH range is reached on stages in certain period of time, on account of uniform chromium
oxide dispersion is ensured in the cross-section and the grain of wet-blue.

Since there is no sudden pH rises, there will be no chrome precipitation.

As Kromofix^® is added into float in one portion, basification process does not need to be controlled.

APPLICATION

After one of the 33% basicity products (Tankrom^® AB, Tankrom^® SB) is added into the float for pickled pelt whose pickle pH is 2.8-3.0, depending on type and thickness of the raw skin the drum is run 30-90 minutes before basification in order to penetrate chromium oxide throughout the pelt.

After maximum penetration is ensured, Kromofix^® is recommended to be used 0.3-0.5% in powder form on pelt weight.

Amount of Kromofix^® should be reduced while being processed with high basifying basic chromium sulphate products, such as 42% basicity Tankrom^® FS (e.g. 0.15-0.3%).

The exact quantity should be determined in each tannery, taking into account the thickness of the pelt, the quantity of basic chromium sulphate and the pickle pH, etc.

It is recommended to start the tannage by adding 6-8% of Tankrom^® AB or Tankrom^® SB (33% basicity), allowing to run for one hour and adding Kromofix^® in powder form. It is also recommended to run for further 8-10 hours. Temperature of the bath has to be 35-40oC at the end of chrome tanning by heating or mechanical action in order to improve chromium oxide exhaustion throughout wet-blue. After draining the float, it is strongly advised to rinse with 40-45oC fresh water.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Harmful effect on eye. After contact with skin and eye wash immediately with water. Avoid breathing the dust.
