Preparation for REACh
at Soda Sanayii A.Ş.
In relation with the management of
chemicals, the REACH Directive (Registration,
Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals)
has entered into force on June 1st,
2007 and it is expected to replace
more than 40 existing legal acts.
REACh aims to improve the protection
of human health and environment in
the course of distribution and utilisation
of all the chemical substances that
are manufactured or placed on the
market in the EU. For this purpose,
directive enforces all the chemicals
to be registered according to a predetermined
time table. REACh does not only concern
the manufacturer or distributors within
the EU territory, it is also a very
crucial challenge for the companies
exporting to EU. All the likely consequences
are very well summarised with the
statement “no data no market”! As
a dedicated “Responsible Care” committed
company, and a major exporter to the
EU, we are on the register for the
implementations that aim to improve
the protection of human health and
environment. In this aspect, with
the aim of being prepared for the
implementation of REACh, a working
group has been established from related
departments such as Marketing, R&D,
HSE and Legal Advice. After having
compiled all the necessary information
about the implementation of the directive,
the group has started to work on pre/registration
process. As we are members of ESAPA
(European Soda Ash Producers Association)
and ICDA (International Chromium Development
Association) as Soda Sanayii A.Ş.,
we are able to access and share up
to date information about the implementation
of REACh and more significantly, to
fulfil the required implementation
rules of REACh in a collaborative
manner. With the aim of finalising
the pre-registration of our products
well before the dead line 01 December
2008, we have appointed Sisecam Bulgaria
EOOD (Ltd.), Varna, Bulgaria as our
Only Representative for soda ash and
sodium bicarbonate; and Cromital S.p.A.,
Milano, Italy as our Only Representative
for chromium chemicals. For additional
information and for all your questions
regarding our preparation for REACh,
please kindly contact us at reach@sisecam.com.
